About Us

The Naturalist Project is dedicated to inspiring curiosity and fostering a deeper connection with nature. Our goal is to make the natural world accessible through engaging guides, videos, and hands-on courses that encourage exploration and learning. We believe every species has a story worth discovering, and through our resources, we aim to cultivate a community that appreciates, protects, and celebrates biodiversity.

Our Story

The Naturalist Project began from love for biodiversity and fascination with the Academy of Natural Sciences’ malacology collection, where hours spent photographing shells after work led to an online identification guide for seashells. This guide grew to cover all East Coast and Gulf of Mexico states, evolving from its early name, Seahorse and Co, to The Naturalist Project, better capturing the project’s mission to make the natural world accessible and engaging.

From sharing seashell IDs to producing educational videos, The Naturalist Project brings nature’s wonders to a broader audience. Starting with the “Parts of a Shell” series, our videos have taken viewers from Alabama’s rich ecosystems to Antarctic explorations. Through guides, videos, and courses, we hope to inspire others to explore, learn, and celebrate the beauty of biodiversity. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just beginning, The Naturalist Project is here to support your journey in exploring and preserving the world’s precious ecosystems.
